“Simon Harris to launch digital Wicklow craft trail featuring over 40 local artisans

County Wicklow Partnership and Wicklow Craft Foundation will launch Wicklow's inaugural digital craft trail at Powerscourt Town House, Enniskerry on St Brigid’s Day, taking place on Thursday, February 1.

‘Made in Wicklow: Head, Heart & Hands’ platform is a comprehensive showcase for 41 of Wicklow's skilled craft practitioners and artisans and presents a curated display of the county's unique, excellent and diverse craftsmanship. It not only brings together the collective talent of artisans. it also introduces a new brand identity to the marketplace.

Full professional photography, including profile shots and product images, has been undertaken for each craft practitioner, accompanied by 19 captivating videos to vividly bring the story of Wicklow craft to life, all of which will be available to view online. In addition, the platform also features a carefully curated ‘Recommended by’ section, showcasing the retail and supports of Wicklow craft, which will help build brand identity.

Speaking ahead of the launch, Chairperson of County Wicklow Partnership Liz Wall said: “County Wicklow Partnership, in collaboration with Wicklow Craft Foundation, is dedicated to promoting and preserving the rich tradition of craftsmanship in the county. Through strategic initiatives, collaborative efforts, and innovative platforms like ‘Made in Wicklow: Head, Heart, and Hands’, the partnership aims to contribute to the economic and cultural development of the region by supporting and showcasing the diverse talents of Wicklow's craft practitioners.”

The initiative also aims to go beyond the celebration of this rich creative talent by offering an additional tourism offering for visitors planning a unique and authentic experience as part of their visit to the garden county. Minister Simon Harris will carry out the official launch at Powerscourt Town House in Enniskerry, which has been generously provided by Sarah Slazenger. The launch will be accompanied by free a five-day exhibition right across over the bank holiday weekend.

To build excitement and community engagement, a 26-workshop craft series is currently been hosted across Wicklow libraries and simultaneously, an eight-week community pottery project is underway in Arklow to highlight the history and heritage of Arklow Pottery.

This project has been funded through the Transitional LEADER Rural Development Programme 2021 – 2023 and is supported by County Wicklow Partnership, Wicklow County Council and Wicklow Craft Foundation. County Wicklow Partnership and Wicklow Craft Foundation.”
