Porcelain table lamp. After making a straight column and while the porcelain is still semi soft I work gentle bends & curves into the form. Letting the vessel dry to near leatherhard before applying underglazes to the surface of the white porcelain. Once again I let the piece dry some more before etching the pattern into the surface.

The shape & form of the vase dictates the pattern & I try not to overthink the design, keeping a loose flowing hand with the knife. It is a balance on knowing how busy or quiet a piece will be.

After an initial firing I glaze the interior with a clear glaze.
Then it is fired in a high temperature firing of 1265 degrees the translucent properties of the porcelain becomes apparent. After the firings I sand the exterior to a smooth tactile surface and apply a finishing wax polish to the surface.

size 32cm tall x 11.5cm diameter

The lamps sit on top of a solid light base which come with either a charcoal or natural cable. The fittings take a E27 screw in bulb. Depending on the type of bulb you use, you will get different shades of light through the porcelain surface. I have used a linear warm bulb in the photos.
